It's Alex's first birthday complete with Mickey Mouse cupcakes. I found a cute idea online to make the ears out of oreos. He wasn't too sure about the cupcake at first but soon he started digging right in.
I can't believe he is one already! He is finally crawling on all fours now and rarely does the army crawl that he did since about 6.5 months old. He is also pulling up on everything and can climb the stairs. In the past few days he has started to push his toy across the room. I got a picture of this on my phone so I'll have to upload that on here. But basically he has a push toy that he used to walk across the room. He is getting more and more balanced and coordinated so I'm sure it won't be long before he figures out how to walk on his own.
I took him to his one year check up and he is 20 lbs. and 29 3/4 inches. He waves for "hi" and "bye bye." He calls his bottles "Ba Ba." However over Memorial Day weekend I finally weened him off the bottle cold turkey. He was a little cranky about it at first but he's been drinking from a sippy cup for a while but only with juice or water in it, not milk. He still takes a paci when he sleeps. That will be next to ween him off of but I don't have the heart to do that yet. He loves his paci!
Let's see the other words or communication he say's is "Uh" if he drops something. He normally doesn't do the full "Uh oh" just the "Uh." He also knows what the monkey and duck say's which he will imitate that sound. He was saying "Mama" and "Dada" but he isn't saying that as much. He knows what they mean though because he will look at Richard or me when you say them. He knows his name and his sister's too.
He is a pretty good sleeper at night about 12 hours, can't complain. But he isn't a good napper, only about one hour in the morning and afternoon which makes for a cranky baby during the day. Speaking of cranky, he has a temper. I can not believe this kid can throw a tantrum at one year. I'm talking throwing his head back and screaming at the top of his lungs. I feel he gets frustrated because he can't talk yet and tell me what he wants. He also will scream if Rachel takes a toy from him. They do not share at all. If Alex has her toy she will snatch it from him. Rachel is pretty good with him but I see the jealousy when she wants my attention. She will get agressive with him and push him down. Just the other day she wanted him to move out of her way and she pushed his head down so he hit the tile floor in the kitchen. Needless to say Alex was not happy! He was fine but I really got on to her about the pushing. I feel like once he starts walking he will be able to hold his own. He is spunky and won't put up with it.
